SOLAR COLD CHAIN
Secteur 7

SOLAR COLD CHAIN

In sub-Saharan Africa, between 30 and 40% of food products are lost due to inadequate conservation infrastructure. This reality affects farmers, fishers and distribution operators first, who lack access to reliable, continuous and affordable cold storage.

PDRA Consulting designs and deploys solar cold chain solutions based on autonomous refrigerated containers — Solar Coolers. These units operate without grid connection, without diesel generators, and with zero CO2 emissions. They are installed where conventional infrastructure is absent or failing.

Our approach combines direct social impact — reducing post-harvest losses and improving farm incomes — with measurable climate performance, opening access to carbon and concessional finance.

The Solar Cooler solution

The Solar Cooler is a refrigerated container powered 100% by solar energy. Its main features:

  • storage capacity of 20 to 40 tonnes depending on the model
  • full autonomy, with no grid connection or diesel generator
  • zero CO2 emissions in operation
  • rapid on-site deployment in rural or peri-urban areas
  • simplified maintenance, suited to low technical-capacity contexts
  • compatible with horticultural products, fisheries, dairy and pharmaceutical goods

PDRA Consulting's role

PDRA operates at three complementary levels:

Project development

  • identification of priority sites and value chains
  • technical and financial structuring of projects
  • preparation of funding packages (donors, climate funds, banks)
  • negotiation and contracting with partners

Technical project management

  • supervision of unit deployment
  • quality control and handover of installations
  • training of local managers and operators
  • monitoring of technical and energy performance

Consulting and studies

  • technical and economic feasibility studies
  • environmental and social impact assessments (ESIA, ESMP)
  • strategic advice on cold chain programmes and partnerships

WASTE MANAGEMENT & CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Secteur 8

WASTE MANAGEMENT & CIRCULAR ECONOMY

In West Africa, waste management is a structural challenge. Urban and demographic growth is outpacing the capacity of existing collection, treatment and recovery systems. Municipalities and operators face increasing needs, often without solutions suited to their context.

PDRA Consulting supports governments, local authorities, public and private operators, and technical and financial partners in designing and implementing modern, high-performing and sustainable waste management systems.

Our approach combines technical engineering, circular economy and climate finance. We work across the full project cycle — from initial assessment through to the structuring of high-impact environmental and economic projects.

Modernising Waste Management Systems

We support system transformation projects at every stage:

  • technical, institutional and financial diagnostics
  • waste characterisation and flow analysis
  • strategy development and master planning
  • design and implementation of appropriate infrastructure
  • structuring of operational and governance models
  • project management support and environmental supervision (ESMP)

Landfill Rehabilitation

We work on the environmental remediation and secured closure of existing dumpsites:

  • environmental and social assessment
  • cell stabilisation, reshaping and capping
  • leachate management
  • biogas capture and management
  • ecological and landscape restoration

These projects can include energy recovery and carbon finance components depending on site conditions.

Soil Remediation & Industrial Site Rehabilitation

We support the management and rehabilitation of contaminated sites in industrial, urban and mining contexts:

  • environmental assessment (Phase 1 and Phase 2) and field investigations
  • contamination characterisation (hydrocarbons, heavy metals, etc.)
  • health and environmental risk assessment
  • remediation management plans
  • in situ and ex situ treatment solutions
  • environmental monitoring and validation of remediation works
